Are you a Weirdo?

One dreary night in January, I woke up around 2 a.m. with my mind reeling about EVERYTHING.  Work, family, friends, money… you name it, it was swirling in my brain. So, I decided to go downstairs and sketch.  This is my way of relaxing and reigning in my focus.  So I gathered my pencils, pens, and pad and slunk downstairs to create.  My mind was cluttered with everything else, that my creative side was… how should I say it… blocked.

As I sat down and I grabbed this coffee table book my nephew gifted me called “Geek Girls Unite”, which is a cute little read outlining all types of geeky ladies.  BAZINGA!  As I flipped through the book, I was inspired to sketch out different character or moods of women, combined with my fascination with cameos, and this was the beginning of The Women Cameo series.  Obviously, there are tons of “geek” girls, but my focus was on all the other types of ladies from the preppy ones, fashion snobs, outdoor enthusiasts, goofy souls, and eccentric ladies that fill our homes, work, grocery stores, and streets.  Even if we are a combination of these ladies, it’s fun to celebrate our unique side.

The first lady I created was The Weirdo.  When I moved to North Carolina about 5 years ago, I had a black bob and a few tattoo’s which are definitely not the norm in this part of the South.  Often when we would go out I would get “… you are not from these parts, are you?…”  or “… you must be from L.A. or NY…”, which made me laugh at the time and recently fueled my desire to create The Weirdo Cameo.  We all (tattoos or not) have a bit of a Weirdo side to us.  Whether it’s in our creative flare, how we view the world, our profession, and/or hobbies, the weirdo resides in us all.

The Wierdo is a lady who does things her own way. She expresses herself even when her dress or behavior may seem eccentric to others.

So, what is your Weirdo side? Do you embrace it, or hide it?

Edgy Fashion: Knucklebox Clutch by the Master

Every edgy lady must have an Alexander McQueen knucklebox clutch… even if only in their dreams!  This clean and classic Alexander McQueen design is topped with the signature edgy knuckle ring and will surly swoon even the not-so edgy punk rock ladies, but including the pastel wearing cardigan lovers.

Ohhh….

These little gems will run you over $2,000 bones.  Looking for a knock-off?  Sorry ladies,  Alexander McQueen has this little edgy fashion piece liscened. In fact, Snookie (a.k.a. the Italian Meatball) seemed to have been caught in a “mix-up” (if that’s what you call it)  by producing a bag with knock-off knucklebox hardware for her accessory line. Haha… what an idiot!

Happy dreaming!

Fighting with Atomic Cowlick: Ring Girl Bonanza

Recently Atomic Cowlick styled a few lovely ladies for the WCF’s Bull City Brawl MMA Fight by providing sporty, sexy outfits.  These athletic ladies graced the ring with personality, charm, and a Southern Minx edge complete with hand wraps, of course!

Most of you may already know Courtney, who also models for Atomic Cowlick.  Here she is giving away one of our tee’s “Trouble” to a lucky lady in the audience.  She is a true Southern Diva.

… and of course, me acting stupid…

A huge “Thank You” to the World Combat Federation for allowing us to style these beautiful and fun ladies.

It was a fun night of fights, networking, meeting new people, and trying something new!  I think this is something we would do again.  What do you think?

Typical Morning Southern Minx Style

Ever since I received the BEST BIRTHDAY card ever from my brother about 15 years ago with a B&W photo of a woman shaving and a cigarette hanging out of her mouth, I was bound and determined to re-create it.  I mean, how badass is that?

So, what’s your daily routine?

Tell us what kind of photo theme Atomic Cowlick should do next in the comment section below.  If we pick your theme, you’ll get a free tee!  It’s that easy.

Edgy Fashion: Taylor Reeve Heels – Art Meets Fashion

Who’s talented, wicked artistic, and a lover extra high heels?  Taylor Reeve, the girl behind these whimsical BADASS heels who’s designs have been getting a lot of attention lately!  We are all in LOVE with Taylor’s one of a kind hand painted soles on these fantastically high stilettos.  By melding her unique edgy art with every women’s fashion weakness, shoes, Taylor helps women feel super fine and sexy every time they slip on her wearable art.

Taylor started her artistic career at a very early age in San Diego, Ca. and quickly tapped into this unique edgy market by selling her one of a kind shoe art on Etsy. Since then, she has recently expanded her mini-empire by working with names like Quicksilver and Dragon Vendetta, and will soon open her own online store called Taylor Says.  Her sole art (not to be mistaken for ‘soul’ art – haha) has a unique combination of not only her own personal flare, but a dash of graphic novel merged with a vintage tattoo style making her designs timeless.  The bold colors, designs, and glitz make these a must have for all confident & edgy vixens.

My favorite masterpiece of Taylor’s (so far) are the pink sequin sugar skulls below.  Why? – because every girl should leave behind a trail of glitter (a.k.a. Unicorn shit) while having sugar skulls ogle those who follow.

Pair any of these beauties with a graphic tee to create your own radical style.

If deadly high heels aren’t for you, don’t fret, Taylor also adds her color & flare to flats too.

Keep an eye on this talented vixen… we are certain she has lots more up her sleeve!

Love Affair with Jewelry & Accessories

Accessories and jewelry are always better the bigger, brighter and bolder they are!  My love affair with big colorful jewelry started as a kid when I would watch my mom get ready and put on the final touches to her outfits by adding scarves, bangles, or earrings.  Once she was finished, it was my turn to play dress-up!  Later in the years we would often shop together for accessories and if we couldn’t find the boggles we wanted, then we would make our own – of course!  Jewelry and accessories can either make a simple statement, or an outrageous one.  Of course, I generally go for the outrageous route…

Which is why I am so excited about this amazing sterling silver jewelry made by Studio Lacy and now offered on our online shop!  Lacey and I were friends in high school and she always had a wicked creative knack for making wonderful pieces, mainly Day of the Dead (or Dia de los Muertos) art!  I’m so excited to showcase a select line from Lacey and hope you are as well!

My love for turquoise and chunky jewelry stemmed from my childhood and along the years  I have collected several pieces by making them, passed down from generations, and picking up new ones from here and there.

Here I am wearing Frida Ring by Studio Lacey available for sale online, turquoise ring and bracelet passed down two generations, a small Yaki ring given to me by my bestie, and multi-strand turquoise stone necklaces I made years ago.  The graphic tee you can’t see is Dead Gorgeous and available for sale.
